Arbitration Chambers and its members recognised in Legal 500 international arbitration rankings 2022

The new Legal 500 London Bar guide on international arbitration: arbitrators (International arbitration: arbitrators in London Bar | Law firm and lawyer rankings from The Legal 500 United Kingdom - The Bar guide) again recognises Arbitration Chambers’ members Juliet Blanch and John Beechey as two of the world’s leading international arbitrators, affording them a well-deserved tier 1 ranking.  Neil Kaplan QC also re-enters the rankings in tier 2.

In addition, Arbitration Chambers itself is ranked in the latest guide, for the first time, with the Legal 500 recognising the unique qualities that make us so special:

Arbitration Chambers is a unique organisation in that it focuses entirely on full time arbitrators. Established in 2012, the chambers has offices in the key arbitration hubs of London, New York and Hong Kong. A large portion of its members are former solicitors with distinguished arbitration careers as solicitor advocates and arbitrators while at their previous law firms. Now practising full time, they often bring a different perspective to those coming purely from a barrister's background. Key names to note include Juliet Blanch, John Beechey, the former president of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and Neil Kaplan QC, former Chairperson of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and judge in charge of the construction and arbitration list in the Hong Kong courts.

Eva Kalnina joins Arbitration Chambers as full-time arbitrator

Arbitration Chambers is delighted to announce that Eva Kalnina has joined us as a full-time arbitrator (Eva Kalnina).

Eva, who is based in London and Geneva, specialises in international commercial and investment arbitration, with a particular focus on CIS and Eastern European disputes. Her principal areas of practice are energy and oil and gas, joint ventures/shareholder agreements, M&A and financial transactions, construction and art. She is multilingual and speaks an array of languages, including English, Italian, Latvian, Russian, French, Spanish and German. She is a member of the ICC Court, the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators and the PCA.

Eva joins Arbitration Chambers after more than a decade at Lévy Kaufmann Kohler in Geneva, where she was a partner, having previously worked at BonelliErede in Milan. Eva states, “I am delighted and proud to join a chambers with leading female arbitrators such as Juliet Blanch, Chiann Bao, Jean Kalicki and Lucy Reed, and look forward to focusing my practice on sitting exclusively as an international arbitrator for which Arbitration Chambers provides me with the ideal platform”.

Eva is widely recognised as one of the rising stars in international arbitration, and her experience and abilities are a great addition to the first-class international arbitrators already at Arbitration Chambers.

Gary Born, President of the SIAC Court of Arbitration, with whom Eva has previously worked, commented that “Eva is one of the most capable, versatile and thoughtful international arbitration practitioners of her generation. She has an exceptionally bright future”.

Juliet Blanch, who joined Arbitration Chambers as a full-time arbitrator in 2017, said, “I have known Eva Kalnina for many years and have the highest regard for her professional capabilities as well as regarding her as a friend. Eva is an exceptional lawyer and skilled arbitrator, she is extremely hard working and is always well prepared, being equally comfortable in civil and in common law proceedings. I am delighted to be able to welcome her to Arbitration Chambers”.

Arbitration Chambers was established in 2012 in Hong Kong, expanded to London in 2017 and to New York early in 2020. Our members all work as full-time arbitrators/neutrals and do not undertake counsel work, and they all operate separately and independently from one another. This reduces potential conflicts of interest, which can arise for arbitrators affiliated with law firms or traditional barristers’ chambers. Further details about Arbitration Chambers can be found at www.arbchambers.com

If you have any questions about Eva's expertise or availability, or about Arbitration Chambers, please contact our Chambers Director, Sarah Lancaster, at sarah.lancaster@arbchambers.com or on +44 7922 426565.
